Assad says he’s ready to meet Saad Hariri
BEIRUT: Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has said he is ready to meet Saad Hariri, the son of five-time Lebanese premier Rafik al-Hariri whose assassination has been widely blamed on his regime.
“We were asked whether if Saad Hariri came to Syria we would receive him. We said of course,” Assad said in an interview published yesterday by the London-based Arabic-language daily Al-Hayat.

Saad Hariri heads the anti-Syrian majority in the Lebanese parliament but he did not take up the premiership himself after elections last year, leaving the job to his father’s longtime right-hand man Fouad Siniora.
His bloc has repeatedly accused Syrian intelligence officials and their Lebanese allies of being behind his father’s assassination in a massive car bombing on the Beirut seafront last year.
